Ron, keep the surface wet with the RustBlast. DO NOT LET IT DRY ON THE SURFACE! This will only cause a zinc buildup. After rinsing with water, used compressed air (if possible) to blow off excess moisture. We also use a clean dry cloth to absorb the excess moisture before allowing to air dry thoroughly. This will minimize the discoloration. What temperature are you working in? In either case that "discoloration" or "flash rust" you"re seeing is perfectly fine to apply epoxy primer over. With that zinc on the surface it will bond like crazy.

KBS AquaKlean will work to clean your engine. Mix a 1-1 solution with warm water, spray the engine down, and allow it to soak for up to 30 minutes. Use a brush to scrub any "hard" areas. Rinse completely with water. If you engine is really greasy and dirty, you may need to repeat.

As for solvent based cleaners, solvent does not always make a cleaner any better than a water-based cleaner. Also, water-based cleaners are much friendly for the environment.

Received Aqua clean today & Rust Blast to get some fresh metal prepped on a Custom motorcycle Im building & just finished using both products as directed on a front fender & a set of handle bars, They were kept wet for 10-15 min with the Aqua Clean & scrubbed usung a fresh moroon Scothbrite & Rinsed, Left to dry& then treated with the Rust Blast for 10 min & then rinsed throughly & left to dry, As its drying Im getting goldish colored patches on the front fender & not the solid greyish color it shows it should be, Again this was fresh sanded metal with no rust & Im just trying to get a good surface before a Expensive Custom paint job is done, Why would it get the tarnishing instead of the nice grey etched surface it is suppose to ??
Ron

Is AquaKlean suitable for use prior to spraying automotive paint? I'm looking for a solvent to remove oils, wax, grease, and silicone from *painted* surfaces prior to coating, but preferably a water-based solution. Right now I am in the middle of sanding the existing paint before I spray some sealer and want to get rid if any sanding residue and the like, aka above from the surface. It sounds like AquaKlean is suitable for all surfaces.

Just looking for some feed back before I prime and seal.

Brief exposure of the AquaKlean or RustBlast will not harm the paint. It will remove any wax you may have on the surface though. Just rinse off with water and do not allow the surface to soak in the solutions.
