While it's not the ideal situation, the tank sealer is capable of handling up to 600 degrees for short amounts of time and can easily handle 350 continuously. With this in mind, I think you should be OK.

Jim,
Thanks for the info. I will probably break down and blast it to bare metal, prep and seal it using rustblast and then coat it with blacktop. Thanks for the info on the system sample kit...that should be the perfect size for my motorcycle frame.

John

We have customers use BlackTop for just such an application all the time. You would need to remove all loose and/or flaking paint, then ideally prep and seal the bare steel areas with RustSeal, (a System Sampler Kit would work fine), then apply the Blacktop.

Were you looking for gloss black?

Has anyone used BlackTop to paint a motorcycle frame? I recently purchased a BMW R100 that had been stored for 10 years. There is surface rust all over the frame, so it needs to be painted. I am fairly naive about paint, but the Blacktop appealed to me because I could paint it over the existing paint, it could be brushed on, and it is durable. If anyone has used BlackTop on their motorcycle frame, I would appreciate hearing from them regarding how it looks. Does it look like a typical paint job or does it look more like a powdercoat job? Are you pleased with how it looks? Did you paint the BlackTop over the existing paint? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I coated a bike tank last year and this year I am sending the tank out for powder coating. My question is how will the tank sealer hold up. The tech told me the tank will be heated to 400 degrees. I'm concerned that I will have to remove the lining job I did last year.
