I read the section on Rustseal color choice on the website but I thought I would post the question to be sure I dont misunderstand.

Is there a real durablity difference between the different colors? And if so, could you please elaborate?

My application will be on an indoor high traffic motorcycle hydraulic lift, so it would have the usual tools, parts, and mild chemicals exposure on it. I'm partial to the gloss black but would gladly sacrifice color, for durablity. The lift is 1/4" steel diamond plate that measures 7'x2', and I'd like to coat the top with 2-3 coats,( is 2 coats enough?) and the bottom with one coat. Will a pint will cover 56 sq ft?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi,
I've almost finished making a mild steel 200Lt (44gal) diesel tank with baffles - the top panel has not been welded on.

I'm thinking of sealing it using your tank sealer.

as its a clean new tank will I have to use the cleaner and rust blast?
Are other primers or etch primers suitable?

I was thinking of brushing the sealer on most of the internal surfaces and the baffles leaving room for a hot zone before welding the top on and then doing the top by rolling it around. What do you think?

Hi, I have a 99% solid 500gal diesel tank.

I just cleaned the tank to check for any pits on the bottom
where water was laying. There are several shallow on one end in a area on the bottom center line. Can I coat the tank partially on the bottom ~ 12" off either side of the center line?
~1 gal of KBS?
My concern is if the tank isn't completely encapsilated with KBS,
the fuel will ge behind the coating an cause failure.

Hi: just got the motorcycle tank kit and followed the directions to the letter. My question is: when I look into the tank I see 2 bad rust spots that don't seem to dry. They appear waxy almost. The rest of the interior of the tank looks super, almost galvanized! I should note that I soldered the bad rust holes from the outside of the tank before I proceed with the cleaning. I supose it is possible that the waxy spots I see are residual flux from the soldering process. I dried the interior of the tank wit forced air cool and heated for about 6 hours and I assure you it is dry. How should I proceed with the spots. I'm ready to seal the tank but don't want a coating failure at this point in the project. Help

Stayed up till 3am (waited for kids to be in bed) to spray for my first time ever. I sprayed a cab with 2 coats of rust seal and noticed some runs and dust in the finish this morning. I know rust seal is not a finish coat, but I want to eliminate the flaws before I spray a top.

1.How long should I wait before I sand out the imperfections?
2.Would 400 grit work well enough?
3.After sanding the rustseal smooth, do I have to reapply another coat of rust seal or can I just continue with the top coat.

I've just completed the Rust Blast surface prep of my bike's tank. The Rust Blast was in the tank for 50 mins, and the tank was rolled every few minutes to allow full coverage. After draining and flushing, I noted that all the 'rust' colored stuff was gone, but there is quite a bit of very hard black looking rust remaining. Will the tank sealer adhere to this stuff, or should I look at giving it another Rust Blast treatment?

I'm restoring a motorcycle that I think had a factory powder coated frame. I had planned to get the frame and several brackets sandblasted and powder coated, but now I'm wondering if the KBS Chassis Coater kit plus a Topcoat might produce similar results. It would save me some money and reduce the amount of work required in masking every threaded hole, plus I get that DIY satisfaction.
What do you think? PS, I will be using the KBS Motorcycle Tank Sealer kit on the tank as well...

I recently order a motorcycle tank kit. I cleaned the tank out with the Aqua clean and let dry. This actually did a good job and a lot of loose rust was washed out leaving quite a bit of bare metal visible.
I then used the rust blast for about 30 minutes. I rinsed it as thouroughly as possibly and let it dry. A rust like coating formed over most of the surfaces even the ones that were clean after the Aqua clean. Some of this can be rubbed off.

How should I proceed before using the rust seal?

I have a snow plow that I intend to sandblast, then RustBlast and RustSeal. I would like to topcoat it with a color that matches the red RustSeal very closely. A few questions:

I want to confirm that if I spray on my topcoat within 6-12 hours (according do your diagram here: http://www.kbs-coatings.com/Flow-Chart--RustSeal-on-Steel_ep_87-1.html) I do not need to sand and etch it as long as I do it within this timeframe correct?

What categories of topcoat paints (a brand recommendation would be nice), in your experience, adhere well. I'm looking for a UV protective option. Are the paints I should avoid?

Lastly, I anticipate 3 coats of RustSeal. Is a quart enough to do a plow or - do I need a gallon (I think around 40 sq ft front/back)? What are the coverages?
