The cast iron gearbox on my lathe has a hairline crack in the bottom, after removing the gears and cleaning good,would you recomend the sealer for this? the gear box is about 12in by 16in. the oil comes up about an inch off the bottom, i would like to coat the bottom and about 2 inchs up. thanks.

Sure, it should work well. You'll just need to be certain to degrease that surface very well first. The sealer could also be brushed on the outside of the hairline crack area to seal from inside and out.
