We are purchasing a new dumpster that will be used in close proximity to atlantic ocean. Would painting it with rust seal be a good idea to keep it from rusting? If so what steps would we need to take as it is painted metal with a smooth finish.

Will you be removing the coatings that is on there now or keeping it? The BEST WAY would be to remove the coating that is on there now so that the RustSeal can bite into the metal.

For your application, you will want to apply 3 coats of RustSeal.
